Make stolen dogs from Wisbech too hot to handle plea from heartbroken family

A Fenland family have put out an urgent plea after five of their dogs were stolen.

Natalia Thompson, whose parents own the dogs, said:"We want to make them too hot to handle" and are asking people to help us get them returned safely.

Thieves struck at the family's kennels near Wisbech overnight on Wednesday/Thursday and managed to grab the five, leaving a similar number of dogs running loose in their pen.

The five included two six month old red cocker spaniels, who are sisters, eight-year-old toy poodle Monty, and two Coton de Tulear girls aged five and two - they look similar to a Bichon Frise.

One of the cockers has since been found running lose near the Elme Hall roundabout but the others remain missing.

Natalia explained her parents have run their kennels for over 22 years and treat their dogs as part of the family, she said her father is devastated by the theft.

She said: "Obviously we have reported it to the police and they have told us that they are dealing with dog thefts every single day. Since lockdown began the price of puppies has soared, a dog that might have cost £500 at the start of the year is now selling for over £2,000 and thieves are seeing it has easy money.

"My parents have CCTV on the kennels but unfortunately it didn't capture those responsible. Clearly there needed to be at least two or three people involved to be able to grab so many dogs. The dogs are friendly with us, but are wary of strangers so they wouldn't have gone willingly.

"It is heartbreaking not knowing what has happened to them. We keep thinking of all the worst things like are they being cared for properly.

"We don't know how the one dog was left wandering around. Was she dumped or did she escape from them some how. Have the other also been dumped and if so are they all right having been out overnight and of course it was fireworks night.

"We are asking people to keep an eye open for them, if they are offered one to buy then they should contact the police. If someone finds a dog wandering around then they should take it to the vet so it can be checked over and returned to us, or whoever owns it.

"Our dogs are all microchipped so hopefully that will help trace them back to us if they are found. What these people has done is unforgivable my parents are now spending thousands on upgrading the security, they are having sirens and alarms fitted so hopefully they can't happen again.

"But they are desperately upset by what has happened and just want their dogs back."
