Wisbech man damaged wardrobe and door at ex-partner’s home in King’s Lynn

A man damaged a wardrobe and door at his ex-wife’s home while visiting to take one of their children swimming.

Jason Ward, 34, appeared at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with criminal damage to property.

He pleaded guilty to the offence, which he committed on May 31 this year.

Crown prosecutor Emma Pocknell said that on that date, Ward returned to the home he shared with his then-partner in Lynn and entered against her wishes.

“She asked him to leave, and he asked if she was seeing anyone else – and called her a cheating sl*g,” Miss Pocknell said.

Ward proceeded to punch a wardrobe and bedroom door – although a price was unable to be placed on the damage he caused them.

The woman asked for a restraining order to be placed on Ward, preventing him from communicating with her in any way. However, magistrates – led by Martin Redhead – eventually opted against this, deeming it unnecessary and disproportionate to his offence.

Ward, who currently lives at temporary accommodation in the White Lion Hotel in Wisbech, was handed a six-month conditional discharge, however, and will pay £105 in legal costs and a £26 victim surcharge.

Appearing in court unrepresented, he said: “I was invited to the home to take my child swimming.

“I got there half an hour early. I rang the doorbell, but she said it was rude. I was drunk.

“I actually punched three doors – that is just being honest. I made a mistake.”
