Man from Doncaster named as victim in A141 crash near Wimblington




A man who died following a collision on the A141 near Wimblington on Friday (24 June) has been named.

Mateusz Mroczkowski, 33, of Almond Road, Doncaster, died after he was involved in a collision with a HGV at about 4.15am.

The busy Fenland road was closed all day while accident investigations and carriageway repairs were carried out.

Emergency services including Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were called to the incident which happened at around 4.12am on the A141 between Chatteris and Doddington.

Fire crews from Chatteris, March, Ramsey, Manea and Huntingdon all attended the incident.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving a lorry and a van, with the lorry on fire in a ditch. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets.

“One casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance. Another casualty sadly died at the scene.

“The A141 was closed for most of the day to allow the fire to be extinguished safely and the vehicles to the recovered.

“Crews from Chatteris and March revisited the incident at around midday to inspect the scene and check for any hotspots.

“The crews returned to their stations by 3pm.”

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said Mr Mroczkowski family have asked to be allowed to grieve in peace and added: “Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101 or visit www.cambs.police.uk/report quoting incident 61 of 24 June.
