Wisbech man handed £400 fine for fly-tipping on Lord’s Lane
Failing to dispose of household waste properly has landed a man with a fine and a criminal record.
The Wisbech man, who has not been named, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 2, after his possessions were dumped on Lord’s Lane last year.
He had given his rubbish to an associate who fly-tipped it, which led to a district council investigation.
The authority traced the waste back to the defendant, who admitted the offence and received a penalty of £400.
Prosecutor Andy Cave said: “It is the responsibility of every individual householder to ensure that their waste is disposed of correctly, in accordance with the law or by a registered waste disposal service.
“Fly-tipping costs the taxpayer a large amount of money and leaves an eyesore to all those who want to enjoy the countryside.”
After the hearing, Cllr Steve Tierney, portfolio holder with responsibility for fly-tipping action, said: “Fenland District Council takes fly-tipping very seriously and will pursue anyone who illegally disposes of waste, or fails to take reasonable steps to ensure they use a registered waste carrier who will dispose of waste lawfully.”
