Sutton Bridge man Philip Hall fined for driving on A47 after licence had been revoked

A Sutton Bridge man who drove without a licence claimed he didn't know it had been revoked.

Philip Hall, 35, of Wharf Street in Sutton Bridge, appeared at King's Lynn Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with two offences.

He pleaded guilty to driving after the revocation of his licence on account of a disability and to driving without third party insurance.

Prosecuting, Hannah Butler said Hall had been pulled over by police on the A47 in Necton on November 12 after their checks revealed his application for a licence had been refused.

The defendant produced a letter handwritten by his mother for magistrates which outlined the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He told them he had been waiting on both mental and physical health appointments which he needs to complete before having his licence re-instated.

Hall added that it had been due for renewal when he moved from Norwich to Sutton Bridge, but that the DVLA had taken more than a year to fill out a necessary form.

"I simply didn't know that the licence had been revoked," Hall said.

"If I had known that it had been revoked, I wouldn't have drove."

Hall, who already had four penalty points on his licence following a 2021 speeding offence, was handed an £80 fine by magistrates - led by Ginny Hutton - for driving after it was revoked.

He was also told to pay £50 in legal costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Hall was handed six further points for that offence, while his licence was endorsed for driving without insurance.

Ms Hutton said: "When you get your licence back you will have ten points on your licence, and this means that you are going to have to drive very, very carefully because any more points and you will lose your licence."
