Chatteris man Colin Day, 49, jailed for four years after being found with almost £15k worth of cocaine and cannabis as well as nearly £6,000 cash

A man found with almost £15,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis has been jailed for four years.

Colin Day, of Hilda Clarke Close in Chatteris, was spotted by police throwing packets of the Class A drug out of the first-floor window of his home after officers obtained a warrant to search the property back in March 2022.

The 49-year-old was subsequently arrested and it was revealed he had cocaine and cannabis worth up to a combined £14,800 as well as nearly £6,000 in cash in the house.

When interviewed, Mr Day admitted possession of the drugs, but claimed they were for personal use and the scales found during the search were to ensure he didn’t overdose.

He also admitted possession with intent to supply cannabis and being concerned in the supply of the drug, however, denied a third charge of possession with intent to supply cocaine despite an analysis of his mobile phone showing messages consistent with dealing.

Day was found guilty at a trial in Cambridge Crown Court in November last year and was jailed for four years on Friday, January 10.

DC Nik Loizou said: “Drugs can trap people in addiction and ruin lives.

“Drug dealing and associated anti-social behaviour can also cause misery for our local communities and be linked to other crimes.

“We will continue to do all we can to bring people who supply these substances before the courts.”
