Charity has raised £100k for local good causes in 37 years
A March-based charity is “justifiably proud” after hitting the £100,000 mark with their fundraising efforts over the past three decades.
March Committee for Children’s Charities went over the £100k grand total this week thanks to a well-supported bridge day held on Friday Mary 11 which raised £1,200..
The event attracted 72 players and the charity’s Valerie Topliss said: “We were delighted with the support the day had. Players came from all over the area to take part.
“We set up the charity in 1981 and have been going for 37 years. We used to hold balls and dances, but now we hold to events a year - the bridge day and a coffee morning in November. We knew we would hit the £100,000 mark this year, but we thought it would happen after the coffee morning.
“Obviously we feel justifiably proud of our achievement. All our money goes to charities that help local children. We have helped some specific appeals where people are fundraising for a wheelchair or something like that, but we have also donated to Milton Hospice, Clic Sargeant, Young People March, Eddies in March, St Piers - a school for epileptic children - Meadowgate School in Wisbech and both March and Chatteris boxing clubs.
“More recently we have been supporting mental health organisations as young people’s mental health has been in the news a lot. People have always been very generous in supporting us and we want to thank for that support.
“We will be holding our coffee morning on November 29 at Doddington Village Hall - we hope to raise at least as much as we did last year, which was £2,000, so we hope people will come along and support us on the day.
