Meet Matt - making an impact at Aria Court care home in March
At just 20 years old, Matt Fletcher has already made a big impact at Aria Court, where he’s become a well-loved member of the team.
Starting his journey straight out of school, Matt initially joined as a carer, and today he splits his time between caring and being part of the lifestyles team at the March home — a role that’s brought out his best skills and passions.
Matt’s path to this role wasn’t straightforward. He completed A-levels in Law, Politics, and Business, but didn’t feel drawn to pursue these fields further or go to university.
During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, he did his learning at home like thousands of other teenagers, which made his final years of study quite different from what he’d expected. When he finished, he found himself looking for work close to home, and that’s when a vacancy at Aria Court came up.
“At first, I was a bit apprehensive,” Matt admits. “I wasn’t sure if I could do it.”
But two years in, Matt has found his stride. The combination of care work and organising activities has been the perfect fit.
He enjoys taking residents on trips, has become expert in playing games like dominoes, and loves taking part in musical activities—an area where he shines thanks to his love of playing guitar and attending concerts in his free time.
“I like coming to work,” Matt says. “It’s a rewarding job, and it’s great to see the changes you can make to people’s lives. You might not think care is for you, but you never know until you try it. I’m glad I did.”
Home Manager Jo Monaghan couldn’t be prouder of Matt’s progress. “Matt is a well-liked member of the team and is a reliable, hardworking young man. We are lucky to have him as part of the family here at Aria Court,” she said.
Matt’s journey shows that sometimes good opportunities come when you least expect them. For now, he’s happy where he is, helping make a difference each day, surrounded by a supportive team. And the future? “Let’s see,” he says with a smile.
