Meet the new police officers fighting crime in Cambridgeshire

Nine new police officers took part in their passing our parade on Friday (August 28).

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Hopkins commemorated the joining of the new recruits alongside their families and dignitaries including Police and Crime Commissioner, Sir Graham Bright.

The parade took place at 2pm at the Learning & Development Training Centre at Monks Wood, near Alconbury, on the last day of the recruits 16 weeks of training.

The officers, who have been posted across the county and are now making an immediate contribution to policing the streets of Cambridgeshire, were inspected by Deputy Chief Constable Mark Hopkins and watched by family and friends as they marched.

In a speech, Deputy Chief Constable Mark Hopkins congratulated the constables. He said: “I am delighted to be celebrating the passing out of our new police officers. They are keen, enthusiastic and really want to get out and deliver a great service to the public of Cambridgeshire.

“I am also pleased that in Cambridgeshire we can continue to recruit to keep our strength up. Whilst officer numbers is not the only measure of our capability, we are determined, despite the financial pressures, to sustain our ability to keep the public safe.

“These officers will be joining a hard-working, but stretched front line. I know they will have an immediate positive impact, and will work together in their new teams to fight crime and protect the public of Cambridgeshire.”

Various demonstrations took place on the day including a Roads Policing Unit vehicles demonstration, an officer safety equipment demonstration and a display from the Dog Section. There was also a guided tour of the police museum.

Of the officers taking part, three will be posted to Peterborough, three to Cambridge, and three to South Cambs.
