Member of public praises efforts of Fire and Rescue Service after helping sheep out of River Nene near Foul Anchor
A sheep was rescued from a river, as a passer-by praised the efforts of the team.
Firefighters from King’s Lynn, along with Sutton Bridge, and Spalding were called at around 9.30am on Tuesday after a sheep fell into the River Nene at Foul Anchor.
Multiple fire engines and firefighters descended to the river, where the crew used floating sleds to get the animal to safety.
Antony Spooner, who was passing by, said: “I was driving along on my way to Sutton Bridge and noticed a few emergency vehicles congregating on the opposite side of the river, so I stopped to look and be nosy.
“I spoke to one of the residents, who said there had been a sheep stuck on the opposite side of the bank since early in the morning.
“Emergency services launched their boat to try and rescue the stranded sheep. It jumped into the river and swam towards Sutton Bridge.
“They followed it and ended up near us at Foul Anchor Bridge. They caught the sheep, and then me and another person who worked for Fenland Council helped pull the sheep up onto the bank.
“The lady who lived in the area agreed to look after the sheep till the farmer could collect it.
“The emergency services did a fantastic job, and I think they deserve recognition for this.”
He said it is nice to give the crew recognition for the good work.”
