Model Summer Le Conte is hoping her journey to Miss Great Britain finals will inspire others

A model hopes her journey to the Miss Great Britain finals will inspire others who struggle with their weight.

Summer Le Conte, who has links to March, is set to compete at the prestigious contest in October of this year after being crowned Miss Boston earlier this month.

That win came after her Miss Cambridge triumph in 2021, and she was delighted to find out she’d be travelling to the showpiece event.

“I was over the moon. I was walking my dog when the email popped up, and I was so happy,” she said.

“I’ve started prepping already - I feel like I started prepping before I was even given the title to try to manifest it.

“I think if you put stuff out there, you tend to get some of it back. I’ve been training really well to get into shape, and I’m planning outfits and getting hair and makeup booked.”

Summer currently works on a self-employed basis in a Spalding salon, offering hair extensions to her growing client base.

She moved to the town last year from March and says the risk has paid off.

However, her journey to the top of beauty pageantry hasn’t been an easy one.

She has struggled with being underweight for much of her life, and says she was bullied at both primary and secondary school.

Towards the end of last year, she decided to ‘stop making excuses for herself’ and to work hard at putting on weight.

“I don’t think I was in the right mindset to help myself. Then after I did Miss GB last year something just clicked, and I thought if I did it again then I want to be in a better place physically and mentally,” she said.

“If you feel more confident in yourself, other people can see it. That’s why I joined the gym, got a personal trainer and started eating right.”

She now hopes that, with her brand growing, she can be a role model for anyone experiencing similar difficulties to the ones she did.

“There’s so much on weight loss and fat-shaming, but not enough publicity around gaining weight healthily and eating disorders,” she said.

At the start of November, Summer weighed around 44kg. She has now passed the 50kg mark, and feels much better for it.

She added: “Now I’ve hit that, I’m not so worried about chasing numbers and thinking I need to weigh something to be happy.

“As long as I feel healthy and know I’m looking better, that’s what I want to focus on.”
