Missing March cat Biscuit is home after three years and in need of vet treatment
Three years after going missing Biscuit (Bikkit) the cat is back where he belongs thanks to his microchip.
The large fluffy cat disappeared from Papworth Road in March just six weeks after being brought there in October 2017, by Keith and Su Bigland, who adopted him after his previous owner, Keith’s mother, died in Birmingham.
Despite a huge appeal including an article in the Citizen to find him, Biscuit remained lost.
However, on Wednesday (14) Keith and Su had a totally unexpected call from a March vets to say he had at last been found.
Keith said:”The call came at tea time on Wednesday, and initially I really thought it was a hoax. But it soon became clear it was real and Biscuit had been found. It seems that someone had been looking after him for most of the time he was away.
“But he became sick and because they couldn’t take him to the vets because of his chip, they kicked him out. Luckily a kind couple found him and managed to catch him, and within a short time of taking him to the vets, he was back with us, thanks to his microchip details.
“Luckily we kept his details up to date, which is something people should really remember to do. If we hadn’t updated them, then the vets would think he belonged to someone in Birmingham.
“It’s absolutely amazing to have him home. But his breathing was very bad when we got him and so we had to take him back to the vets the next day.
“They told us there were two options, throw everything at him to save his life, which was obviously going to be expensive, or have him put to sleep.
“We couldn’t bear to lose him like that, especially as we had only just got him back so we told them to do everything they could.
“The initial bill is for over £1,000, and he is now doing well, but he will need medication for the rest of his life. I don’t normally believe in fundraising pages, as it seems a bit like begging to me, but we needed help with the vet’s bill.
“We have fostered over 50 cats and kittens since Biscuit has been missing, and I thought maybe some of those people we helped might like to help us. I managed to keep it together over the weekend, but when I saw how much had been raised, it really choked me up.
“I can’t believe how generous people have been. Biscuit is now doing well and is getting back to his old self. It was obvious the moment he came into the house that he recognised us, and it is wonderful to have that link with my mum back in our lives.”
