Mother says she is “angry” at Neale-Wade Academy, in March, after it allegedly caused dozens of students to fail GCSE business course
More concerns have been aired about a secondary school after claims it has hidden its “level of failure” in teaching a business course.
Another parent has come forward to say that Neale-Wade Academy, in March, has not fulfilled the role it needed to with its Enterprise and Marketing subject, leaving many students hindered in the exam and some not able to take it at all.
This is the second family to get in contact with the Fenland Citizen regarding the issue, with worries that the school “pulled the subject from beneath them with no communication on why”.
Neale-Wade has stood firmly on its response, saying this is not the case and that it has given the children the “option” to focus on core subjects (such as English and Maths) due to their predicted grades.
It maintained that all of the pupils could have continued the course if they wished, and it is speaking with parents “to ensure students are well supported to make the right choice for them”.
However, the mother has said that she was told the issue came down to a long-term staff absence, which was filled with supply teachers who did not adequately support the students during their coursework.
She says the assignment part of the course, which can only be completed in class and is worth a large percentage of the students’ overall grade, was not being overseen properly, and the lack of guidance meant students did it wrong, with no-one’s work good enough for a pass.
It is alleged that only ten students from a total of three classes are being allowed to continue the course, including her daughter.
“My daughter is one of the ‘lucky’ ones still sitting the exam, all that she can now get is a pass.”
Despite it already being exam season, some students and parents were only told last week that they would not be sitting it.
”I feel angry, and my daughter is one who has a chance to still take it,” the mother added.
“Neale-Wade hasn't communicated anything with parents to hide the level of failure -someone needs to shine a light on this.
“I know running a school must be incredibly difficult, but this is beyond believable.”
