Mourners remember KL.FM’s Emily at funeral service

The funeral of radio presenter and newsreader Emily Bull has taken place in Peterborough.

More than 100 relatives, friends and colleagues packed the city’s crematorium today to pay their respects to the former KL.FM news editor, who died from a rare form of cancer last month, aged 32.

Her death came just six months after she was recognised as one of the country’s top radio news presenters at the Independent Radio News (IRN) awards.

And her husband, Stuart Henderson, told the congregation: “Journalism was her passion.

“Emily had a way of making you feel comfortable around her. She found good in everyone.”

Many of Emily’s former colleagues from KL.FM, where she was appointed news editor in 2013, were also among the mourners.

A tribute compiled by presenter Charles Dennett was played during the service.

He said Emily had given him his first radio job, adding: “Listeners, when they heard Emily on breakfast, genuinely felt they were listening to one of their friends. I have a lot to thank her for.”

A poem was also read by Keely Mills, who co-founded the Handmade in Peterborough craft group with Emily, after they met via Facebook four years ago.

The group meets weekly at the Brewery Tap pub in the city centre and she said: “It has changed people’s lives.”

Donations made at the service will go to the memorial fund set up in Emily’s memory in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, who supported the couple following her diagnosis.

And the appeal, which is still running via the Just Giving website, has already raised more than £2,500 for the charity.
