Purina’s Pet Pride Awards crown entertaining feline ‘Top Comedian’

Izzy, a ginger tom cat, has been crowned Wisbech’s Top Comedian as part of the recent Purina Pet Pride Awards in recognition.

The judges selected two-year-old Izzy as the winner of the category in recognition of how his light-hearted antics entertain his owners, including several impressive tricks he’s taught himself which demonstrate his intelligence and make the whole family laugh.

Izzy’s stunts involve using his owner’s video doorbell to his advantage, jumping up on to a wall to activate the sensor and send a notification to her phone when he’d like to be let inside.

And it’s not just the doorbell Izzy has mastered; he’s also been known to lend a helping paw to hold the tape measure down for his owner, Amanda, when she’s doing a spot of DIY.

Pet care company, Purina, launched the Pet Pride Awards to celebrate the amazing cats and dogs in Wisbech and the surrounding area as part of a recent £150 million investment into its Wisbech factory, which has been part of the community since 1998 and which employs more than 500 local people.

Commenting on Izzy’s award win, owner Amanda, said: “It was such a lovely surprise to learn that Izzy had been given this award as Wisbech’s Top Comedian. He’s a wonderful companion and has provided us with laughs ever since he was young.

“Izzy really does brighten our lives, not only providing us with entertainment but also lots of love and hugs too. He’s a truly treasured member of our family and we know he’ll enjoy his prize in recognition of that.”

As a reward for being named Top Comedian, Izzy has been given Felix cat food to enjoy – one of the popular pet food brands Purina makes at its Wisbech factory.

The investment into the Purina Wisbech factory includes a series of developments designed to modernise the technology and machinery on its production lines, enhance the facilities for colleagues, improve energy efficiency and help reduce carbon emissions over the coming years.
