Andrew Woollard and Nigel Spencer MBE start new roles as mayor and deputy for March
The new mayor of March and his deputy have taken on their new roles after being handed their gowns at the latest town council meeting.
At Monday evening’s meeting, Cllr Andrew Woollard swapped seats with the former mayor, Gary Christy, after being nominated for the position at the end of last month.
Now that he has started his role, he is looking forward to serving the town.
Cllr Woollard said: “I was born in Robingoodfellow’s Lane at the old March maternity home.
“I have spent my life living in March with its balance of rural farming and urban life, working for local businesses and being involved with many local organisations, such as the scouts and March Bears Rugby Club.
“I look forward to the coming year representing my home town throughout the area and helping promote the many facilities and opportunities available to our community.
“It is a privilege and pleasure to stand here tonight as your mayor.”
Cllr Nigel Spencer MBE has taken over the role of deputy mayor from Cllr Woollard, who was formerly in this role before being nominated for mayor.
He said: “I have served in the army for nearly 44 years, and March has been my home for 18 years, and because of how well it has treated me and how well they treat the armed forces community, I wanted to be a councillor.
“So today I am honoured to serve as deputy mayor of March.”
