New project to tackle loneliness in Fenland attracts 800 people to Chatteris Library

A new project to help loneliness had a successful launch.

A community cafe was held on Friday and Saturday at Chatteris Library to launch a new ‘Know Your Neighbourhood’ project to help tackle loneliness.

The library launched this project after successfully getting government funding due to Fenland being one of the area’s with the highest rates of loneliness.

Over the two launch days, 150 gift bags were handed out and there were about 800 visitors to the library who also got to enjoy a band and a mobile library bus that attended on Saturday.

The community cafe was the first of many events for this project and the aim is to get Chatteris people in and test what they would like to see be put on in the town such as new groups and hobbies for them to come out and join in with.

The scheme will be running for 18 months at the library.
