Reform UK candidate Andy Osborn elected as new councillor for Roman Bank and Peckover at Cambridgeshire County Council elections

The new Reform councillor for a Fenland ward says he will object to devolution, dubbing it “disgraceful”.

Another seat has been taken from the Conservatives by Reform in this year’s county council election after Andy Osborn won with 1,398 votes.

He has been announced as the representative for Roman Bank and Peckover, taking the place of Simon King, who has held the position since May 2017 and received 919 votes.

Mr Osborn says he had never heard of the ward until about four months ago, stating that “nobody wanted to stand there”.

“I said that I am going to stand there and put them on the map,” he said following his victory.

Mr Osborne told the Citizen that he will deliver on what residents want, which he believes has been the downfall of the main parties.

“Thank God I have been elected,” he added.

When asked about devolution, the Reform member said he will oppose it.

“We’ve got five and a half million people that have been denied the vote, and that’s disgraceful and it’s anti-democratic,” he said.

Other nominees were:

• Amanda Jane Hirson (Labour) - 122 votes

• Lucy Ann Mance (Green Party) - 97 votes

• Jack Wheelan (Liberal Democrats) - 600 votes
