No simple solution to Ukrainian war as Fenland group meets to discuss issue
King’s Lynn and Wisbech StoptheWar will be holding a meeting on the war in Ukraine next Thursday (May 12).
There will be three speakers, at the event, which is being held at the Friends House, 21 North Brink, Wisbech from 7.30pm.
One will be from the National Office, Grace Cowan, whose father lives in Wisbech; one from the local Ukrainian community, Vera Hazelwood; and Sue Dockett of Wisbech and March District Trades Union Council.
Jacqueline Mulhallen, the local StoptheWar organiser said: “The full meeting title is daunting –‘No to War in Ukraine: Russian Troops Out, No NATO Expansion, Refugees Welcome’ – but this is a complex issue, and there can be no peaceful solution without understanding that.
"Simply pumping more arms into the conflict has been shown to be a recipe for disaster.”
This meeting is one of many all over the country calling for peace.
They are also calling on the British government to stop talking up war in Ukraine and to give its support to a negotiated peace by backing the peace proposals now being discussed by Ukrainian President Zelensky and his Russian counterparts.
In this crisis the Stop the War Coalition is seeing another rise in membership. Come and find out why, and sign the petition at https://www.stopwar.org.uk .
