Sergeant Iain Carter and PC Michael Holihead receive Royal Humane Society Awards for saving missing man in Chatteris

Two police officers have been recognised for finding and saving a missing vulnerable man.

Sergeant Iain Carter and PC Michael Holihead, from Fenland’s operational support unit, received Royal Humane Society Awards at the Chief Constable's Long Service and Commendations ceremony last week.

Deployed as a drone team to help find a 75-year-old man who was missing from home and believed to be in a rural area near Chatteris, the pair found the man just before midnight on June 23 last year.

He was in a drain several metres deep along a farm track, but the officers went down the steep banks and into the water to free him from mud and dragged him up onto dry land.

They then began first aid and cared for him until paramedics arrived.

He has since made a full recovery.
