'Fenland MP has gone back on his direct promise,' says Wimblington letter writer

It was pleasing to see that our local MP (Steve Barclay) now has another role in government. It was also nice to see that he would not be taking any additional salary as he already receives nearly £150,000 per year.

I would remind him that the pensioners in his constituency have had a kick in the teeth from him, as he has now gone back on his promise (made to me directly) that the triple lock on pensions would not be removed from their finances as set out in the election manifesto and it would be implemented in full.

It may not seem a lot to him, but to the pensioners of Fenland who are not able to attract an additional income, it is devastating.

I am sure he will quote that the pandemic has left us in a poor state – but surely the people at the top with the deepest pockets should now step up for us all, and he should also acknowledge that it was the older section of our society that suffered the most and paid the highest price in the pandemic.
