Paul brings a touch of Mod culture to Manea with his own version of a classic Llambretta scooter
A former Mod has converted his mobility scooter to make his own version of the Llambretta he could not afford in his youth.
Paul Finney, from Manea, had to make do with a Honda 50 when he turned 16, which didn't quite cut it when he joined his Mod friends on jaunts to the Welsh seaside.
The 71-year-old said: "My friends were actually all Rockers and had motorbikes, but I was a Mod, I had all the clothes, the Parker coat and the suits, but I couldn't afford a LLambo, which all the cool guys had back then in 1966.Instead my mum and dad bought me the Honda 50 to get about on.
"But it to be honest all it did was make me save up and get myself onto four wheels as soon as possible, not only because I didn't fit either with my Rocker friends or with the Mods, but to be honest I didn't feel terribly confident on two wheels.
"I managed to buy a Morris 1000 for £20 when I was 17 and that was the end of my Llambretta dreams.
"But now I have bought this mobility scooter, and I decided I wanted to relive my youth so I have turned it into my own version of a Llambo.
"I fabricated and welded all the extras myself, bought the shiny bits and mirrors from a place in St Ives and 'blinged' it up."
Paul has even added a sign to the back of his machine which says "Quadro Senior" on it - a nod to the cult movie about the Mods and Rockers, 'Quadrophenia'.
He added: "We are only here once so make the most of it, life is not a rehearsal.
"On my jaunts around the village, several Manea residents have smiled and waved. At least three Manea long standing residents have told me about their scooters in the 70s and said seeing me really made them smile."
