Pedal power serves up the cash for Eddies in March
Users of Eddies in March have completed a pedal power challenge by cycling the distance from John O’Groats to Lands End – without leaving the town.
The charity, which supports people with a huge variety of needs including visual and mobility impairments as well as learning disabilities, took on the challenge at the beginning of May during a party to celebrate the coronation.
The aim is to raise money for new kitchen/dining facilities for members to use at the centre in Norwood Road.
Organisers thought it would take around three months to complete the 874 miles virtually by using exercise bikes and also table top cycles, but they have managed to complete it in just two.
The journey ‘started’ in John O’Groats and participants not only logged their progress but also researched places they ‘passed’ along the way such as Fort William, Lancaster, Solihull and Bristol.
Participants logged their miles individually making the challenge into quite a competitive undertaking.
Member Jason notched up the most miles completing over 110 miles by using the exercise bikes at the Eddies centre in Norwood Road as well as is own at home.
Jason was actually the start of the inspiration for the challenge and so it was great that he took it too heart and compelted the most miles.
Staff, members and their families all contributed to the fantastic achievement and have helped the participants on their way to raising money for a new kitchen at Eddies.
The aim is to install a working kitchen that will enable staff to teach and develop life skills and also to bake lots of cakes for the surrounding community to enjoy with member.
If you or someone you know is looking for day placement there is currently availability and staff staff love to meet you.
Equally, as a charity Eddies rely hugely on volunteers, something they don’t have enough of. If you’re interested in becoming part of the team, please contact us on 01354 655487.
