People in Fenland urged to have their Covid-19 vaccines

With figures showing just four in ten eligible people in the east of England have received their spring Covid-19 vaccines, NHS Cambridgeshire is urging those eligible to come forward.

Data shows that uptake for the vaccination in Wisbech is just 28% and Fenland as a whole 41%.

With just under six weeks to go, the NHS is reminding those at highest risk of getting seriously unwell if they catch the virus to come forward for their free vaccination and top up their protection this spring.

Eligible people are:

-Are aged six months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment;

-Live in a care home for older adults.

Cali Makewell, integrated vaccination service lead at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB, said: “With the current warmer weather, it might not feel like the right time of the year to have a Covid vaccination, but regardless of the time of year Covid remains a serious and dangerous illness to those most at risk.

“If you’ve not got around to having your vaccination this spring, then it’s not too late. You can book online, through the NHS app or by calling 119 for an appointment.”

There is a selection of clinics available across Cambridgeshire, some offering walk-in sessions or bookable appointments, as well as quiet clinics for those who need them.

Walk-in clinics are at St John's Church Hall, Station Road, March on Thursday, May 22, 10am to 3pm and Thursday, June 5, at the Queen Mary Centre, Queens Road, Wisbech, 9am to 3pm.
