Disability sports in the spotlight at Wisbech
A sports day held at the Hudson Centre, at Wisbech, by the town's PHAB club was so successful that it could lead to more events in future.
Club leader, Carol Alderton, said that they were hopeful of funding from the charity Living Sport and feedback from those who took part showed they were keen to do more.
About 22 people tried out a whole range of different sports from football, short tennis, table tennis, badminton, football, swimming and also kwick cricket and table cricket which were totally new to the organisers.
Carol explained that the idea was originally muted before the Covid pandemic when the Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied club was given a £500 grant for sports activities.
She said that the money was still laying there until the charity Living Sport, which includes disability sports in its programme, got involved and organised the day of events at the Hudson Centre.
“There was an excellent turnout of people, including carers, and everyone was keen to try out the sports and coaching on offer” she said.
Carol added that Living Sport had offered to support more sports days so the club was looking at the possibility of organising one once a month.
“We would also welcome more members to the club. Just give me a call on 01945 700063 to find out more about us and the sports days,” she said.
