Police make fresh appeal in 25-year-old murder case in Ramsey

Police are making fresh appeals for information in a murder probe exactly 25 years after a Ramey man was last seen alive.

Andrew Bedford was last seen on September 28 1990 in Factory Bank, off Great Whyte, Ramsey, in a light blue Ford Cortina estate car eating some takeaway food, possibly fish and chips.

Detectives believe he was killed later that evening with a shotgun at a garage called Mongrel Cars, which no longer exists, in Ramsey.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of the last sighting of Andrew, police have been in Ramsey appealing for more information about his death.

The officers were speaking to local people, handing out leaflets and putting up posters right across the town in a fresh appeal for information.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Brunning, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said he believed answers still lie in the local community and urged people to come forward.

He said: “Today marks a quarter of century of bereavement for Andrew’s family and they are well overdue some answers.

“I am convinced someone out there has information that could help this inquiry and provide the family with the closure they deserve.

“Our aim today is to speak to as many people in Ramsey as possible and get our appeal for information out to the whole community.

“Unsolved murder cases are never closed and we will be doing everything in our power to find a resolution and bring anyone involved in Andrew’s death to justice.”

In June, police announced they had discovered pieces of bone during a painstaking 13-day search on land off Stocking Fen Road, Ramsey, in April.

Operation Ongar was re-launched on April 10 by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit to re-investigate the death of Andrew.

A 64-year-old man is set to answer bail on Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder earlier this year.
