Police to escort abnormal load from Sutton Bridge
Police will be escorting a large transformer over the weekend.
Motorists are warned that the 363 tonne transformer will be transported from Sutton Bridge to Walpole on Sunday, May 18, from 9am.
The convoy will be travelling at a speed of 10mph due to the size of the transformer, which is 64m in length and 4.1m wide.
The following roads will be affected:
- West Bank
- Bridge Road
- A17
- Wisbech Road
- Main Road.
A force statement said: “We are unable to move during the hours of darkness as most of the roads in Lincolnshire are not fully lit. For the overall safety of our road users, the abnormal load crew and our officers, we move abnormal loads when it is safe to do so.
“The route taken has been approved by National Highways and local councils. A more direct route is not always feasible for abnormal loads of this size and length.”
Lincolnshire Police will be working with Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies.
