Kinderley Community Primary School in Tydd St Giles receives £5,000 from Tesco in Wisbech as part of golden token event

Ribbons and confetti flew through the air as one school was awarded thousands from a supermarket.

Kinderley Community Primary School in Tydd St Giles celebrated a “phenomenal” donation given to them by Tesco Extra’s Wisbech branch as part of the company’s Stronger Starts in-store charity event on Saturday. Among invited guests was local boxing champ Jordan Gill.

Each year, the campaign sees shoppers take a lucky dip to search for a gold version of a blue voting token worth £5,000 for one of three charities.

Customer Millie Cooper snagged the golden token and chose Kinderley as the prize recipients.

The school said they will use the money to take their forest school to the next level by developing its pond, grass and wild meadow areas.

“It just gives opportunities for the children to have that outdoor time because they spend so much on technology,” said head teacher Haidee Norman.
