Prime Minister’s policies out of step with Fenland voters

Nearly 100 per cent (96%) of people participating in a survey conducted by Fenland and West Norfolk Friends of the Earth and King’s Lynn KLimate Concern want to see the government investing in renewable energy such as wind

and solar power rather than environmentally damaging fracking.

“It’s not just about fracking where Liz Truss is out of step with local people in West Norfolk and Fenland,” said Alastair Kent, a member of Fenland and West Norfolk Friends of the Earth.

“Our survey showed that 92% wanted to see more help given to insulate homes. We have the least well insulated homes in Western Europe, pushing up energy bills and hitting hard up families struggling to manage the impact of the cost of living crisis.

Local voters believe Prime Minister MP Liz Truss should offer more targeted help for the least well off.
Local voters believe Prime Minister MP Liz Truss should offer more targeted help for the least well off.

Alastair continued: “Furthermore 94% wanted to see targeted help for the least well off rather than the already wealthy getting more help than the poor. Ninety-six per cent thought that oil companies should pay more tax to fund this."

As a local MP Liz Truss should be representing the views of those who elect her. As Prime Minister she is in a powerful position to bring about the change that her constituents want to see implemented. Green energy and targeted help to those in most need should be urgently introduced for the benefit of hard up families in Fenland and West Norfolk.

The survey was conducted during Great Big Green Week – the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
