Manea pub hosts charity fun day to help Chris Brooks battle brain cancer with pioneering surgery in Germany
A family charity day at a village pub has raised £1,500 towards an ongoing fund to help a family man beat brain cancer.
The Rose and Crown at Manea hosted the event on Sunday to boost fundraising in aid of villager Chris Brooks.
Chris, a father of three daughters who is married to Kirsty, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June this year - just 10 months after he tied the knot with Kirsty in a dream wedding.
The diagnosis was devastating news for the couple as Chris has a Grade 4 Astrocytoma, which has been deemed ‘incurable’. Chris was warned he has between 12 and 18 months to live.
Although he is having treatment on the NHS, his family and friends are raising money for him to go to Germany for groundbreaking treatment at a special clinic there.
It will cost at least £60,000 for the treatment and travel expenses.
Kirsty has said: "This is our only option to give Chris a second chance at life. We all want nothing more than Chris to have many more years and to see his beautiful girls grow up.”
A gofundme page has been set up and the charity event at the pub was another boost with most of the village turning out in support.
As well as a barbecue there was a bouncy castle, birds of prey demonstration, a stilt walker, a raffle, competitions and face painting.
The family has thanked everyone involved, including the pub and people who donated prizes, those who provided the entertainment - and an anonymous person who kindly paid for the drinks throughout the day.
