Queen's Jubilee tree is a symbol of March prison and community working together
A Fenland prison has been working together with local youth groups to build a better community bond.
HMP Whitemoor donated a tree to the March Scout/Beaver/Cub groups as part of celebrations for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.
However, the long hot summer meant it was unsuitable to plant the tree earlier in the year.
Andy Wood, works supervisor at the high security jail in March, explained: "We have a beautiful 72-acre nature reserve that is host to many wonderful species of fauna and flora, we also have a dedicated memorial for a crashed Wellington bomber during WW2.
"We recently have made a connection with the local Beaver/Cub groups in the area."
As part of that working together members of the local Scouting community joined Andy and others at the Wellington Bomber Memorial site on Saturday to plant the tree.
Andy added: "I know it's late but because of the dry summer it couldn’t be planted at the start of the year. It has now been planted and is a great example of the prison and the local community working together."
