Ram raiders strike Chatteris store causing massive damage
Police are appealing to what witnesses have described as a "very professional" ram raid at a store in Chatteris overnight (Thursday).
The Nisa convenience store on Park Road was targeted for its cash machine.
It is believed the offenders rammed the front of the building causing massive damage with one vehicle which appears to have been abandoned , and the culprits then left the area in a different vehicle.
One witness said on social media: "It was over in a couple of minutes and am not sure a local Bobby could have done much in this case unfortunately. This was a proper professional job."
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: We were called at 10.48pm last night (6 January) to reports of a break in at Nisa in Chatteris. On attendance the suspects had left the scene and an investigation has begun. If anyone has any information they should contact us via web-chat or on 101 quoting incident 485 of 6 January."
Police have sealed off the area and remain at the scene.
The spokesperson added officers are looking into a possible link with a similar incident which happened in Cambridge yesterday morning.
The spokesperson said: "'We were called at 1.22am this morning to reports of a break in at Co-op in Milton Road. On attendance the suspects had left the scene and found damage had been caused to the front of the shop. A scene remains in place to preserve any forensic evidence. If anyone has any information they should contact us via web-chat or 101 and quote incident 18 of 7 January."
