Why should council pay to light unadopted March road?

LEARN MOREOur outside light needs a replacement bulb. However, we own our house and do not anticipate or expect any council to either replace it or pay for the bulb to be changed.
The Birches in March and similar developments are unadopted roads, so why do we expect councils to pay for repairs and the upkeep of the infrastructure? (Letters, December 18).
There were valid reasons for not adopting The Birches several years ago (and I suspect the issues with retaining walls have not been resolved or answered by the developer and the County Council were found to be liable for similar issues prior to The Birches).
I hope local councillors support their council officers in their actions if they have valid reasons for not adopting these privately built roads.
