Readers call for traffic wardens in Chatteris, March, Whittlesey and Wisbech
In last week’s Citizen, we reported from a Fenland District Council meeting where a senior policeman called for civil parking enforcement, whereby councils enforce parking rules. In our daily newsletter (sign up at www.fenlandcitizen.co.uk/newsletter), the editor asked for your reaction...
A traffic warden is the answer
Why doesn’t the Fenland area have a mobile traffic warden in Wisbech, March and all surrounding areas?
It certainly needs something, as Wisbech is out of control at the moment.
One warden could make their money for the week in one day, judging the number of parkers we have just around the top of the marketplace and the church.

Wisbech must be the worst in UK
As a resident of North Brink I am consistently astonished at the level of abuse of parking along this road.
It is spectacularly bad along the area from Town Bridge to Peckover House, with such inconsiderate parking on both sides of the highway, completely ignoring any parking restrictions laid down.
It doesn’t seem to matter to the drivers who park there that there are a limited number of spaces, which are particularly in short supply around the area of the North Brink Surgery/Pharmacy.
They completely ignore the large car park at the rear of the surgery and also within the grounds of Wisbech Rugby Club, a short walk away.
In the event of an emergency whereby vehicles are required to access North Brink, there is likely to be a catastrophe.
As part of my work, I travel the length and breadth of the UK, and I have never seen such a lack of respect for parking as exists in Wisbech.

Can police give control back to FDC?
I asked about illegal parking when our local Conservative candidate came round to get our vote.
He told me that the police would not give control back to Fenland District Council (FDC) so it could be enforced.

Wardens would earn their wages
Part-time traffic wardens would more than earn their wages. Certainly, if they worked in March.
