Brave breast cancer patients who were transformed into Hollywood icons for a fundraising calendar have been overwhelmed by its success.
The ‘Hollywood or Bust’ calendar went on sale earlier this month to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the first print run of 1,000 has already sold out.
“We’re now waiting for the next batch to arrive,” said photographer Anna Pasquale, who came up with the idea to support local women who had been diagnosed with the condition. The calendar is going much better than expected, the ladies are so excited and invigorated with the response and enthusiasm.”
A group of 16 women from the Fenland and Huntingdon area jumped at the idea of the calendar, which is raising money for their Primary Breast Cancer Support Group, based at The Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrook Hospital in Huntingdon.
The shoots were carried out at the group’s support meetings, with a professional Hollywood make-over with March-based make-up artist Hannah Spendelow and stylists from Barnett’s Hair Company in Ramsey.
Photos were taken for each of the 12 months of the calendar by Mrs Pasquale.
Legendary Hollywood actresses inspiring the shoot included Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and Vivien Leigh.
Local businesses supported the calendar by sponsoring the different months.
March bridal shop Savvy Cinderella also loaned a dress and jewellery for one of the shoots.
Breast nurse consultants Mel Robinson and Lorraine Walker, who help run the breast cancer support group, said funds raised will help fund educational days and social events to help women through and beyond their treatment.
Mrs Walker added: “All of the women have bravely borne breast cancer, but the photo shoots were great fun for everyone and created real bonds.
“It was humbling that our photographer Anna, make-up artist Hannah and the girls from Barnett’s hairdressers all worked their magic voluntarily.
“We are tremendously grateful to our many generous sponsors and to those models in the calendar who also happen to be healthcare professionals at Hinchingbrook, and took time out from providing excellent care and expertise for their patients.
“Whilst dressing up as Thelma and Louise wasn’t in our job descriptions, we shared the buzz of excitement our ladies felt, looking and feeling amazing, and with renewed confidence as they portrayed some classic Hollywood icons.”
The calendar costs £5 and can be purchased from breast cancer awareness website www.sniffywiffy.com from www.huntingdonspa.co.uk as well as local Tesco and Barclays Bank branches.
