Ryan Coogan of the Reform Party is Fenland’s choice for mayor
Fenland results are in as voters elect a new mayor to take on the role for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough authority.
Ryan Coogan of the Reform Party is the district’s choice to replace Nick Johnson, who is standing down.
Mr Coogan received 9,246 votes.
Other candidates were:
- Paul Bristow (Conservative) - 8,302 votes
- Lorna Helen Dupre (Liberal Democrats) - 2,050
- Bob Ensch (Green Party) - 1,063
- Anna Smith (Labour and Co-operative Party) - 2,176
The total number of ballot papers verified was 22,997, and the turnout in Fenland was 30.08%.
Votes are still to come in from Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Peterborough and South Cambridgeshire - with the overall announcement expected in Soham later this afternoon.
The announcement came as a shock to the party, with one candidate, Nick Brooks, who is vying for the Wisbech East county council ward, saying it was a good result but one they were not expecting.
Mr Brooks said: “We hoped it would be the case. It's in the Conservative area, so it's good to smash that.
“It is a good swing, and the Conservatives wanted a recount, but there was no need for it. It was a sign that reform is going the right way.”
