Reports of man with gun prompts police to swoop on suspect in March town centre

A man was arrested following reports he was carrying a gun in March town centre.

Police swooped on the man, who was suspected of carrying a firearm outside the Acre pub in West End Park, at lunchtime today (Friday).

It turned out the suspected firearm was a replica, but the man was still arrested under the firearm act.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 1.25pm to reports of a man with a firearm in March

"Officers attended and the weapon was found to be a replica. The man was arrested for offences under the firearm act."

One person posting on Facebook who witnessed the incident commented: "It all happens in March !! Just watched two armed police put bloke on the floor with serious guns pointing at him. Scary stuff."
