Residents evacuate Wisbech flats after gas leak

LEARN MOREResidents in a block of flats in Wisbech were evacuated on Friday (22) night following a major gas leak.
The incident happened at around 10pm in Norwich Road and police closed the road between Boyces Road and Clarkson Avenue while engineers carried out repairs.
A spokesman for Cadent, the firm responsible for maintaining the gas network, said: "Cadent was called out at 10.42pm on Friday by the emergency services to reports of damage to a pressure reduction facility- a piece of equipment that regulates pressure on the local gas network- at the junction of Norwich Road and Boyce’s Road in Wisbech.
"Our emergency engineers attended the scene and made safe a gas escape, leaving the scene shortly after 12.30am with other Cadent engineers remaining on site to carry out further work to the facility."
