March residents will pay 2.87% more in council tax in 2025/26
March residents will pay 2.87% more in council tax this year after a decision was ratified on Monday evening.
The town council has agreed to increase its share of the precept, which will see owners of Band D properties pay £1.51 more per year.
In total, they will pay £54.13 - up from £52.62.
The council’s decision came as part of an attempt to make up its recommended budget requirement of £375,000 for the 2025/26 financial year.
At Monday night’s meeting, several increases to the authority’s own costs were also approved.
These included a rise in salaries and wages from £52,000 to £55,000, while pension costs will go up from £2,500 to £3,500.
The mayor’s allowance, election expenses, insurance and rent are expected to remain the same.
Phone bills will go up by £600 per year, while village maintenance costs will go from £1,200 to £1,450.
The council’s budget document also says it will pay £10,000 on the St Wendreda’s church restoration project.
Meanwhile, Local Highway Improvement payments will increase from £10,000 to £30,000.
In all, the council’s budget is expected to rise from £298,767 to £354,320.
Its council tax precept in the last financial year was £360,000, and this will now increase to around £375,000 with the 2.87% increase.
