Rev Nigel Whitehouse takes charge of two Fenland churches after licensing ceremony
Two Fenland parishes are celebrating having a vicar for the first time in two years following the licensing of a new Priest in Charge.
The Rev Nigel Whitehouse was licensed by the Bishop of Huntingdon, the Right Rev Dr Dagmar Winter at a low-key ceremony held at St Peter’s Church, Upwell on Tuesday (18).
What had been planned as a joyous celebration for the parishioners of both St Peter’s and neighbouring St Clement’s in Outwell, had to be reduced to a simple ceremony due to the pandemic with a limited number of people attending.
Among them was the Archdeacon of Wisbech the Venerable Hugh McCurdy, as well as members of the parochial church councils and the church wardens.
The Rev Whitehouse joined the parishes from Whittlesey, where he was team Rector for the past 17 years covering the parishes of Whittlesey, Pondersbridge and Coates.
He was previously based in Newton in the Isle, Tydd St Giles and Gorefield.
Rev Whitehouse said he and wife Jo were looking forward to being back in a village community.
