Residents warned of pending road closure and more abnormal loads in Walpole and West Walton areas
Residents in the Walpole and West Walton areas are being advised of another series of abnormal loads and also a month-long closure of a section of village road.
From 6am next Thursday, June 19 to midnight on Wednesday, July 16, a section of Lynn Road at Walton Highway will be closed as heavy plant equipment will be based in the layby a short distance from the mini-roundabout which leads from Wisbech into the village.
During this time, the official diversion will see traffic coming from the Wisbech direction wanting to access the Walton Highway, West Walton areas, diverted with a right turn at the mini-roundabout to the main A47 roundabout near Worzals restaurant/garden centre.
Motorists will have to turn on to the bypass and then exit at the next left junction to get back into Walton Highway via the old road (Lynn Road) where they will then be able to get to the village and West Walton. Access will however, be maintained to properties in the closure area.
People living in the villages will know of other roads they can use to get to their destination but they will not be able to reach the Lynn Road mini-roundabout by going through Walton Highway village.
Slough-based Allelys Heavy Haulage is responsible for the delivery of several large loads to the new energy site adjacent to the National Grid site on the bank at Walpole Marsh.
Letters have been posted through doors of properties affected by the road closure and transportation of heavy loads giving details of the diversion and closure dates.
Abnormal loads will be making their way from Sutton Bridge, through Wisbech to the Walpole site. People are being asked not to park on the roadside of the planned convoy route when these take place. Dates for the abnormal loads in the Walpole areas will be Sunday, June 29th and Sunday, July 13 when no parking on the roads has been requested by the heavy haulage company from 4am to 11pm. Allelys has said the loads will be “very wide and long” and will have a police escort.
Last month, similar abnormal loads travelled through the same areas and proved quite a sight as people stopped to take pictures of the slow moving convoy.
