Road closures planned in coming weeks across Fenland




Drivers across Fenland face road closures in the coming weeks – some for a few hours, others for a few days, while others could go on for weeks.

Among the closures set to be approved by Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways is a month-long closure in Leverington.

It is set to come into force at 5pm on Monday, September 2, and run until September 30. It will see vehicles banned from along parts of Church Road, Roman Bank, and Gorefield Road.

The closure will be overnight from 5pm to 8am daily. The diversion route is Parson Drove Lane, A1101, B1169, and vice versa, or Ringers Lane – B1169 – Church Road, and vice versa.

The closure is to allow resurfacing work to take place on the three named roads between Ringers Lane and Church Road; Lindum Cottages and Caerhays Cottage, Salud, and Milton Drive respectively.

In Elm Birch Grove will be closed between numbers 3 and 11 from 8am to 6pm daily from September 4 to 6 to allow work on an electrical link box.

Alexandra Road in Wisbech will be closed from Post Office Lane and Love Lane on September 18 from 8am to 1pm to enable a meter upgrade to be carried out.

In October a railway crossing in March will be closed overnight.

Vehicles will have to use the alternative route while Whitemoor Road is closed at the railway crossing for maintenance work. The alternative route is via Whitemoor Road, Middle Road, Whittlesey Road, and vice versa. The closure will be in place from 11pm to 4am from October 11 to 14, and again between October 18 and 21.

Manhole cover replacements will see High Street in Wisbech closed overnight from 7pm to 6am on September 23/24, access to properties will be maintained.

The existing one-way system on the Market Place will be temporarily suspended while the closure is in place between York Row and Market Place. There will be a lengthy alternative route for vehicles from Market Place-Church Terrace-Norfolk Street-Howletts Hill-West Street-Cannon Street-Queens Road-Kings Road-Alexandra Road-B198-Bridge Street and vice versa.

In Chatteris, vehicles will be banned from using a stretch of Station Street from number 2b to Market Hill. the road will be closed from 8am to 1pm on September 9 to allow a meter to be replaced.

Footway resurfacing and kerbing will see Poplar Close in March closed between number 7 and the B1099 from 7.30am to 6.30pm from September 9 to 27.

Finally, Cants Drove in Murrow will be closed from the B1187 and Long Drove from September 16 to 20 to allow a water connection. A diversion will be in place.
