Wisbech Rugby Club Chairman left disappointed as vandals strike again.
A rugby club boss has been left disappointed after vandals targeted the ground last night (Tuesday).
This is the second time in eight weeks that vandals have caused damage to the posts at the Chapel Road ground.
Chairman Leonard Veenendaal has said that the vandalism has a huge impact on finances at a difficult time.
Mr Veenendaal said: "First of all there's a financial impact which at this point in time, with coronavirus, the club really don't need.
"We are stretched as it is and having to fork out to repair this post for the second time in 8 weeks - it just keeps on coming at us.
"You have to ask how long can we sustain this in maintaining and keeping these grounds?
"If you add the constant wave of bills that we face in terms of repairs and unnecessary criminal damage and vandalism it all amounts up and just becomes an unbearable situation."
The repairs needed could cost the club around £500, but will also take machine and manpower to fix the posts at the pitch which is used by players throughout the club.
Mr Veenendaal said: "The money is just going to have to be found, but it's the effort that goes into it as well.
"It'll be a combination of volunteers yet again doing some of the work and machinery to lift this all back up again.
"This pitch us used across the club, and minis and juniors use it more frequently. It is an integral part of the club, but when you are faced with constant bills you need to start weighing up whether if it is a luxury or if you can actually afford it."
The club has been hit by several vandalism attacks over the past few years, which Mr Veenendal says means money which could be spent on the game itself is being taken away.
He said: "We'd have to look at means to strengthen it again in some way to prevent it happening again which will be more cost.
"We could spent the money on investing in the game and for the benefit of the club itself. If you've got to constantly divert money which is tight as it is to these unnecessary expenses.
"This is not the first time, we have suffered a brunt of it. It's just never-ending
"We have installed CCTV around the main club and we've had several incidents which the CCTV has alerted us to trespassing and people around that area."
Looking to the future, Mr Veenendaal said that they are hopeful they will be able to start playing again later this year.
He said: "At the moment it's still all off and we've got no firm dates yet.
"Although we are optimistic that we should be able to start the season around September mark if not slightly later.
"We are scheduled to start the pre-season on 21st July so we anticipate that they are about ready in terms of starting the season on schedule."
