Fenland runners donate kit to those who struggle to access sports
Families and individuals who struggle to access sports due to a lack of appropriate kit will be boosted by donations from Fenland runners.
The idea was the brainchild of Three Counties Running Club member Tracey Else, who is also social prescribing link worker for Wisbech Primary Care Network .
She teamed up with fellow runner Dawn Goodley, a physical activity co-ordinator at Active Fenland, and they called on their running friends to donate unused sports kit.
The response was overwhelming, with contributions including full matching outfits, brand-new sports shoes and football equipment suitable for all ages.
The donated items were distributed to Active Fenland, The Ferry Project’s Donations Hub (now managed by The King’s Church), and Matt Warren Performance.
Active Fenland will distribute donations throughout its Easter holiday sports events, to help families and to encourage participants to stay active long-term. Those interested in taking part in activities or exploring more opportunities can visit the Active Fenland page on Fenland District Council’s website.
The King’s Church Donations Hub will provide kit to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse, financial hardship or the cost-of-living crisis. Donations like these make a real difference, helping people access sports that might otherwise be out of reach.
Matt Warren Performance will use the donated kit to support members of their walking football sessions, including junior players and the Comets disability group, who attend sessions at Leverington Sports and Social Club. These contributions are crucial not only for the health and wellbeing of participants but also for their families.
