A popular hairdressing and beauty salon re-opens in Wisbech today after expanding into bigger premises.

The Retreat has moved into well-known landmark 1 Exchange Square, formerly the W4 restaurant and The Wisbech Arms, from its former salon in Leverington.

Local couple Paul and Marie Faulkner set the business up four years ago, but growing demand meant they needed bigger premises closer to the town centre.

They were delighted when the Exchange Square building became available and have spent months renovating inside to get it ready for today’s reveal.

Mrs Faulkner, who has been a lecturer in hairdressing at Peterborough Regional College, said: “Paul and I both love the building and it has been really exciting renovating the space.

“We look forward to welcoming clients old and new to see the changes we have made.”

The couple, along with their team of stylists including Emma Taylor and Kate Webb, formerly of Fleur de Lys, have more than 100 years’ experience in the industry and are members of the Hairdressing Council.

The Retreat is also committed to bringing onboard new talent and has recently taken on two newly-qualified stylists, Holly Matthews and Mr and Mrs Faulkner’s daughter Sophie. Miss Faulkner is delighted to be part of what is now a true family business.

The hair styling team will also be supported by beautician Tammy Else, who offers teeth whitening, nail and beauty treatments, and there is also jewellery on display to buy from My Sisters Treasures and handmade pieces from Folbar, designed by Cair Bartram and Larissa Follen.

‘Billy Band’ wristbands in aid of Billy Lee’s ‘Back On My Own Two Feet’ fund are also on sale for £1 each.

The salon is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays and although walk-in appointments are sometimes available, booking is highly recommended.
