Sentencing of Josh Smith and Ruby Morton pushed back after they broke into and slept in West Walton home
The sentencing of an 18 and 21-year-old who broke into somebody’s home, stole a watch and slept there overnight has been pushed back.
Ruby Morton, 18 and Josh Smith, 21, were due to be sentenced at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the burglary at a house in West Walton which took place on December 14 last year.
Smith, who attended court on Thursday, was also due to be sentenced for being in possession of two kitchen knives.
They previously pleaded guilty to the offences at a hearing held on March 27. A presentence report was supposed to be carried out on the pair before Thursday.
The property was unoccupied at the time because the homeowner was completing renovations.
Prosecutor Jackie Hamlon said that Smith told police that he “wanted to spend some time with his partner” and that they spent the night at the property.
The following morning, the pair were seen coming out of the property, with Morton wearing a balaclava.
Smith was located at the back of the property on a bike and had two knives in his possession.
Police noticed that screws on the garage door had become loose and believed that was how Morton and Smith had gained entry to the property.
While the pair were being arrested, officers noticed the stolen Traser Master Chronograph watch on Smith’s wrist.
The sentencing was pushed back due to Morton not attending a pre-sentence report.
Morton, of Wheatsheaf Close in Ely and Smith, of Phoenix Square in St Neots, are due to be sentenced on July 15 at the Lynn court.
They were released on conditional bail with orders not to break a 10pm to 6am curfew.
