Shock as crash driver in Chatteris gives a breath test showing he is nearly five times the alcohol limit

Police officers have expressed their shock and anger after a driver involved in a crash recorded an alcohol level nearly five times the legal limit.

Posting on their Facebook page this afternoon (Tuesday) Fenland police said: "RTC (road traffic collision) A141 Chatteris - feeling shocked and angry. Officers this afternoon have attended the A141 Chatteris.

"The driver has been arrested for failing the breath test. The driver provided a reading of 1-7-1 yes 171! Limit is 35, the driver has been arrested and taken to hospital.

"Enquiries are on going at this time."
