Sign up now to save on Fenland’s brown bin garden waste collection

Fenland residents are urged to sign now to make savings on having their garden waste collected year-round.

People can sign up now to have their garden waste collected fortnightly in the next financial year (April 2025 to March 2026).

Signing up to pay by direct debit comes with a 20% saving and makes the full-year cost £47 up from £40 last year and equivalent to 90p per week. Payment is taken in one go in February.

Card and cash payments for April 2025 to March 2026 collections can be made from January 2025 at a cost of £59.

Existing direct debit customers’ service will continue as usual.

Cllr Peter Murphy said: “Our garden waste collection service is understandably popular, creating a year-round no-hassle option to have grass clippings, hedge trimmings and other natural garden waste collected from the kerb. As always, we’ve worked hard to keep prices as low as possible whilst ensuring costs are covered by those who make use of this valued service.”

More than 24,000 Fenland households are signed up to the garden waste collection service.

The service can be used to collect weeds, hedge and grass trimmings, leaves, small twigs and branches, flowers and plants, fruit and vegetable waste and real Christmas trees.

The waste is composted and turned into a soil conditioner which residents can collect for free. Simply go along with a spade and a bag and help yourself at Thalia Waste Transfer Station, Melbourne Avenue, March, PE15 0EN, 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
