Wimblington Slimming World group names Rosemary Marchant from Benwick as Woman of the Year
A woman advised by doctors to lose weight has been awarded the Wimblington Slimming World Group’s Woman of the Year award for her success.
Rosemary Marchant, from Benwick, joined the slimming group in January last year after being given a 12-week free referral by her GP.
Although she felt nervous about the attending she soon found herself being made welcome and settling into her weight loss journey.
She said: “I was made very welcome. Not only have I lost weight but I have learned to cook and eat healthier meals and I never felt hungry.”
Group consultant Dawn Breacher said: “Slimming World is 'not a diet' it is a way of life. Rosemary chose not to set a target weight as she felt happier aiming for half a stone weight loss at a time and enjoyed receiving every 'Award'.”
As the weight went down Rosemary became healthier and found she could do more. She started Slimming World’s Body Magic programme which gave her targets to aim for. She walked more and started doing the free exercises shown on the Slimming World website.
Rosemary said: “The exercises are suitable for all ages and those with limited mobility. They are great fun.”
As the weight dropped Rosemary finally felt comfortable setting a target, and she hit that earlier this year shedding an incredible five stones.
Rosemary saidshe feels good in her body and it is such a joy fitting into smaller-sized clothing, her health has greatly improved.
She is now able to enjoy playing with her great-grandchildren, taking longer walks, and tending to her garden.
Her experience with Slimming World has changed not only her life but also her husband and daughter have both since joined Slimming World.
Rosemary, who has made many friends through the group, said: “I am now a very happy and content 76-year-old, much healthier, more confident and slimmer than I have ever been in my life.
“It was a very nervous start for me but I am so pleased I walked through the door and met Dawn and all my lovely friends at the Wimblington Group which meets on a Monday at the Parish Hall, Addison Road 9.30am and 11am.”
