Members from Slimming World group in March raise more than £3,000 after taking part in Cancer Research 5k Race for Life

A Slimming World group has raised thousands for a vital charity after taking part in a running course.

Members from the Thursday and Saturday Slimming World groups at the March Indoor Bowls club took part in the Cancer Research 5k Race for Life in Cambridge on Sunday and raised £3,500 for their efforts.

Members who are in different stages of their weight loss journey completed the challenging 5k course in the 30-degree heat.

Some jogged, some walked, and there were even some who hobbled around the course with the aid of walking sticks or crutches to raise money for the very worthy cause.

Nick Penn, consultant for the group, said: “It was a great day with lots of laughter and fun for everyone.

“Despite the heat, everybody completed the course, which is amazing. As Slimming World is a title sponsor for the Cancer Research Race For Life, it means so much that members are willing to give up their own time and efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause.

“So many people affected by cancer, whether directly or because they know somebody who has suffered with it, so it is amazing to have been able to help raise such a huge amount of money to help Cancer Research in their quest to find a cure.”

Groups take place on Thursdays at 6pm or 7.30pm and Saturdays at 8.30am or 10am at the Indoor Bowls Club in March.
